Scout huts at Bushy Wood, Hailsham, East Sussex
Bushy Wood Horse Sanctuary is easy to find being situated on the main A22 Eastbourne to Uckfield road at Hailsham. By Road By Air By Sea By Train OS Map (landranger): 199/Eastbourne & Hastings OS Grid Reference (landranger): TQ 577 092
By Road: The Sanctuary and Woods are easy to find by road:-
From the South, (Eastbourne): You will meet the A 22 at the Polegate junction (A22/A27) follow this road north from the junction for approx 2 miles, (crossing one roundabout). About 400 yards on the left after the turning signposted "Arlington Stadium" is the signpost for the entrance to "Bushy Wood", by the 300 yd marker for the roundabout.
From the North, (Uckfield): Follow the A 22 south signposted "Eastbourne". When you reach the "Bowship" roundabout (Little Chef/Fina Garage) turn right down the A22 for approx 2 miles, crossing one roundabout. Proceed onto the next roundabout and turn round (come back on yourself) heading north. About 400 yards on the left after the turning signposted "Arlington Stadium" is the signpost for the entrance to "Bushy Wood". by the 300 yd marker for the roundabout.
By Train: From Victoria main-line station, there is a half hourly service to Polegate Station. The station is also well serviced by trains running on the "Coastway Service" running between Brighton and Eastbourne stations. Polegate Station is approximately a 4 mile walk from "Bushy Wood" .
By Air: Gatwick airport is situated about 50 miles from "Bushy Wood". Go to the airport station and follow the "By Train" instructions.
By Sea: Newhaven Port is about 20 miles from "Bushy Wood" . If you traveling by foot find the train station at Newhaven Town and follow the instructions "By Train".
If you are traveling by car, once out of the port follow the signs for A26 "Lewes" follow this for approx 7 miles until you reach the Bedingham roundabout. Once here turn right signposted A27 "Eastbourne" follow this for approx 15 miles, to Polegate. Turn left onto the A22 and then follow the "By Road" instruction from the South.
