According to their website Bushy Wood is an Activity Centre located in the heart of rural Sussex, in the south-east of England.

The county of Sussex is a mix of city, coast and countryside that is perfect for sight seeing, swimming in the sea, and the famous chalk cliffs with Beachy Head and the old lighthouse.

Brighton & Hove offer a taste of seaside city life. But there are dozens of historic towns and villages and wide open downland countryside to explore.

Other attractions and activities on offer in the local area or only a short journey away. London, with all that it offers for the visitor, is easily within reach for a day trip, as are the spiritual homes of Scouting, Brownsea Island and Gilwell Park.

The camp stretches to 17 acres of English woodland close to Hailsham in East Sussex.

They have camping areas and building accommodation available for hire, along with an indoor activity centre, suitable for activities, meetings and training purposes.

The Bushy Wood camp is intended for use by Scouts, Guides and other recognised youth organisations, such as schools, colleges, Princes Trust, DofE, forest schools etc.

The Scout Hut is the larger of their two main accommodation buildings (it can also be booked for day events etc).

For normal residential use it can support a maximum group of 24 guests on the floor in the main hall, there are three side-rooms, one contains 4 bunk beds (sleeping 8), one has 3 bunk-beds (sleeping 6) and the other has two bunk-beds (sleeping 4).

For residential stays the maximum party size is therefore 42, this will not be exceeded under any circumstances due to fire safety regulations, but additional numbers camping outside on the glade area are not counted within this total.

At the rear of the building is the Scout Glade, this is an open area that can accommodate a number of tents, when used together with the Scout Hut this creates a very flexible residential arrangement, with the combination of the building and camping area.

The building is equipped with tables and chairs, and is heated by wall mounted electric fan heaters (no extra charge). The kitchen is equipped with a fully certificated commercial gas cooker, and a full extraction system with gas safety interlock.

The Cub Hut is the smaller of the two main accommodation buildings.

For normal residential use it can support a maximum group of 18 young people on the floor in the main hall, aside from which there are three side-rooms, two contain 2 bunk-beds (sleeping 4 in each bedroom), one contains a single bed (sleeping 1), this side-room has a sink, and is suitable for a wheelchair user.

For residential stays the maximum sleeping capacity in the building is 28, this will not be exceeded under any circumstances due to fire safety regulations, however anyone camping outside on the glade area is not counted in this total.

The building is equipped with tables and chairs, and is heated by wall mounted electric fan heaters (no extra charge). The kitchen is equipped with a fully certificated commercial gas cooker, and a full extraction system with gas safety interlock.

A full range of cooking equipment is provided, such as pots, pans, plates, mugs and utensils, sufficient to support 50 people, extra can be supplied upon request for larger events. The kitchen is also equipped with a fridge, freezer and microwave.

Free Wifi is available within and around all of the buildings at Bushy Wood.

Please Note:  The Scout Camp unit is not in any way connected to our charity.  The Horse Sanctuary Trust came into being because of the unlawful demolition of the rescue stables at Bushy Wood Farm. It is unfortunate that the name is similar, but we are sure that any reader will know why it is that the successful appeal at the site adjacent is important enough to be reported in a manner that is designed to deter local authority curruption. If you need any further clarification or other information please  CONTACT OUR WEBMASTER. Meantime, we hope that visitors to the camp site continue to enjoy that activities they offer.
